Japan appoints “China-school” diplomat Yokoi as ambassador to Beijing
TOKYO, March 25 (PNA/Kyodo) — The government on Friday appointed Yutaka Yokoi, ambassador to Turkey, as the new ambassador to China.
The 61-year-old Yokoi is a so-called “China-school” diplomat who underwent foreign language training in the neighboring country. He becomes the first ambassador appointed since 2010 to have undergone diplomatic training with a specific focus on the relationship with Beijing.
Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said Yokoi’s appointment is the “right man in the right place,” noting that he is an expert on Chinese affairs and has ample experience. (PNA/Kyodo)
