Yemen Operation Continues for French Oil Company Total

French oil giant Total said its operations in Yemen are running at normal levels, state-run Saba news agency reported late Tuesday citing the company’s Chief Executive Christophe de Margerie.

Margerie said the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in its plant in Yemen’s southeastern province of Shabwa is continuing at normal levels.

Yemen is in political crisis like a number of other countries in the region,” Margerie said, adding that “Total will continue producing LNG here as long as we can.”

Yemen has been gripped since mid February by youth-led street protests, which demanded immediate end to the 33-year rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

On Sept. 13, 2010, a group of al-Qaida gunmen blew up a pipeline run by the Yemen LNG Company, a venture led by Total in Shabwa, a local police official told Xinhua.
