Philippine Navy personnel have rescued last week five people whose small watercraft capsized off shore of Tango Island in the province of Tawi-Tawi, a top Navy official said on Tuesday.
Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) command chief Rear Admiral Armado Guzman said among those rescued was a 20-year-old pregnant woman and a six-year-old boy.
Guzman did not identify them except in saying that except for the boy, the rescued people were workers of a resort in Tango Island.
Guzman said the troops from the Naval Special Operations Unit-1 (NAVSOU-1) were on patrol when they chanced upon the resort workers and the boy clinging on their capsized small watercraft and screaming for help.
The group were returning to the resort when their watercraft capsized after being battered by big waves, Guzman said.
