A health official disclosed that six individuals in Zamboanga del Norte have been found positive for the Human Immuno Virus-Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV-AIDS).
Abigail Khio, Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Health Office HIV-AIDS coordinator, said the patients were already placed under medication to control the rapid spread of the virus in their bodies.
Khio said the six patients have one thing in common — they engaged with multiple partners based on a recent report of the National Epidemiology Center (NEC) of the Department of Health (DOH) central office.
The first HIV-AIDS patient recorded in the province of Zamboanga del Norte was in the early 1990s and the patient, whose identity has been kept secret, had long died.
Khio said all the health centers throughout the province were already directed to intensify the conduct of information campaign concerning the dreaded disease.
The health center personnel were also instructed to conduct an advocacy on prevention as the HIV-AIDS infection could not be easily detected except if the concerned individual voluntarily submits for treatment, she said.
She added the Dipolog City Health Office disclosed that 93 guest relations officers were tested positive for sexually transmitted disease (STD) during the third quarter of this year.
