War at Philippine Senate

Bicolano Senator Antonio Trillanes IV admitted Thursday afternoon that the main purpose of his coming to Bicol was to relieve himself from the stresses of the past few Senate sessions, especially on his continuing drive to oust Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.

Trillanes was in this city on invitation of the Albay provincial chapter of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster Ng Pilipinas (KBP) as its keynote speaker and inducting officer of its newly-elected officials at the St. Ellis Hotel here.

Prior to the induction ceremonies, a press conference was hosted by KBP for the visiting senator where he boldly claimed that he had no plans to cease from working to oust the concurrent Senate president who, he said, “has sins committed from the northern end to the southern end of the Philippines.”

“I don’t care about the baseless accusations he will say against me or against other senators he knows involved in this campaign. I will always repeat the same question to him, ‘how and where did he use the P500 million MOOE (maintenance and other operating expenses) fund?’, and I also expect he will deviate the issue against me,” stressed.

Hermogenes Alegre, Jr., KBP-Albay Chapter president, said he also invited Senators Chiz Escudero and Gregorio Honasan, also both Bicolanos from the province of Sorsogon, to grace the occasion.

Escudero, who had earlier visited Albay and met the local media, instead gave way to Trillanes while Honasan did not confirm attendance but promised to do his best to come if given an opportunity, Alegre said.
