War against hunger, malnutrition and poverty

Around 7,000 Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) and Civilian Active Auxiliaries (CAA) members are soon to engage in another war — war against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.

Lt. Col. Lyndon V. Paniza, chief of the 72nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army based in sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Tuburan, Mawab, this province, said aside from maintaining peace and order in the barangay, the Cafgus and CAAs will soon be armed with knowledge on basic vegetable production to boost their fighting chance against their three-fold “enemies”, through the project dubbed as “Gulayan sa 72nd Infantry Battalion.”

Paniza said the project was launched during the Battalion’s 23rd Founding Anniversary celebration recently held at its headquarters.

He said the vegetable production project will start at the Army’s headquarters and will be replicated in its 228 camps and patrol bases located in the five provinces of the Davao Region and two provinces in Region 12.
