Vigan City News: Earthquake Hits Vigan

A mild quake of tectonic in origin recorded at magnitude 2.6 on the Richter scale shook Ilocos Sur province at dawn Wednesday.

Since it was too mild to be felt, the people of Ilocos Sur did not notice it. No report of damages nor aftershocks were recorded, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) satellite station based here.

The mild quake was recorded 14 hours after the moderately strong earthquake with magnitude 4.7 jolted Metro Manila and Southern Luzon provinces last Tuesday.

It was also recorded that three mild quakes happened last Tuesday which was just few hours after the magnitude 4.7 tremor.

Local Phivolcs Researcher Julius Galdiano said that today’s quake in Ilocos Sur occurred at 2:30 a.m. with its epicenter located at 74 kilometers southwest of Vigan City, Ilocos Sur or at South China Sea with a depth of 33 kilometers.
