Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo has encouraged local government leaders in the Cordillera region to sacrifice their personal interests and take a common stand amid the region’s renewed drive for autonomy.
Robredo said in a visit here that it would be up to the villagers to chart their future on autonomy.
“This is the way for autonomy and strength of our place to chart our destiny,” the Interior secretary told local leaders in the ongoing Cordillera Autonomous Region Athletic Association (CARAA), sports officials and athletes from the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Benguet, Ifugao, Mountain Province and City of Baguio in a full-packed sports complex.
He urged leaders and folks to focus on a single path, not on separate ways, to tide the challenge on autonomy.
“The purpose might be pure but you do not unite on one way. So agree on one way. These athletes are banking on us. We should leave a better (place) than we have. Our move will be for them,” he said.
