Even when their bat abandoned them, the Adamson Lady Falcons still managed a slim 1-0 win over the fighting University of the East Lady Warriors Sunday when they continued their campaign to win the UAAP softball championship undefeated.
Suffering from what coach Ana Santiago was her team’s slump at the box, the defending titlists, in fact, needed a crucial Lady Warriors error at the bottom of the sixth inning to score their eight straight triumph in a slimmest of margin, 1-0, at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Adamson’s victory moved the Lady Falcons to within two more games of clinching their back-to-back title following their 2011 conquest, also via a sweep of the two-round affair.
The lone Adamson marker came when UE shortstop Marlyn Francisco dropped what looked like an easy grounder by Lady Falcon Luzviminda Embudo that paved the way for substitute runner Clariz Palma to become the only runner from either team to cross the plate.
Palma pinch run for winning pitcher Rizza Bernardino, who had earlier singled off losing hurler Lanilyn Aligno to start the frame.
