Typhoon in Philippines – Sendong to Hit Panay Island

Tropical storm Sendong changed course and spared Western Visayas although storm warning number 1 remains hoisted over Northern Negros, Iloilo, Capiz, Antique and Puerto Prinsesa.

Civil Defense regional director Rosario Cabrera who is also the executive director of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) said this region was previously included in the track of the tropical storm.

Nonetheless, she said that even before the weather disturbance entered the Philippine area of responsibility, all Provincial Risk Reduction Management Councils (PDRRMC) have already been alerted.

The communications group is continuously providing updates to all stakeholders while the search and rescue groups are also alerted.

Cabrera also urged the public, especially the families situated in low-lying areas, to always stay vigilant amid the weather disturbance changing its pattern.
