Toxic Nuclear Radiation Can Affect Florida, United States

Is there a possibility that the toxic nuclear radiation materials from Japan’s Fukushima power plant may affect the beaches of Florida? The answer is that it may or may not.

But one thing is certain: nuclear radioactive substances can travel either by air or by water. It is not just Florida, USA that may be affected but also many of the popular beaches in the world if the nuclear contaminated water would mix with seawater.

Here’s the latest news on the Nuclear Radiation Leak in Japan.

Workers continued preparations Thursday to pump out radiation-contaminated water from facilities near troubled nuclear reactors in northeastern Japan.

The work is part of efforts to restore reactor cooling functions at the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.

Regular cooling functions using electronics equipment and pumps need to be restored to bring the reactors under control.

But toxic water first needs to be removed from the basements of the turbine buildings for the plant’s No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 reactors to smooth the way for the restoration work.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. <9501>, the plant’s operator, plans to transfer toxic water to steam condensers within the turbine buildings.

I heard that Cesium-137 likes sand, so maybe the radiation from Japan can affect beaches.
