Tourist-hired vehicles are now allowed to enter Iloilo City after these were banned last year in order to decongest traffic.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. confirmed this after their consultative meeting on transportation issues with the city government and various stakeholders of Iloilo City and province recently.
“This is the best solution to accommodate tourists in Iloilo. How could we encourage them to come here if we could not give them a convenient accommodation?” the governor said.
However, Defensor stressed tourists should secure proper permit from the city and provincial tourism offices prior to their visit.
Two weeks from now, Defensor said he will call for another meeting to discuss solutions to the other concerns taken up in the stakeholders’ meeting.
“While we are working on projects that would help address the traffic problems, we must identify things that can be done immediately like the implementation of our transportation laws,” Defensor said.
