GUBAT, Sorsogon, Jan 13 (PNA) – This towns and its neighboring municipality of Prieto Diaz that sit along the western end coastlines of the Pacific Ocean are capitalizing on their natural charms to attract more tourists this year and onward, officials over the week said.
“Starting this year, we are focusing more of our resources in the development of the local tourism industry so that we can open wide the innateness of our place to tourists who love to commune with nature,” town mayor Ronnel Lim here said.
This second class town, located along the eastern coast of Sorsogon province 20 kilometers from Sorsogon City, the provincial capital, boasts of a line of beaches that includes Rizal Beach, which is famous for its gradually sloping shoreline along a four-kilometer still very intact coast.
An ideal place for beach games and campfires, Rizal Beach that is five kilometers from the town’s poblacion and business center played host to the 9th edition of Philippine Hobie (PhilHobie) Challenge in February 2009.
Organized by the Philippine Hobie Challenge Foundation (PHCF), Philhobie is the country’s premiere extreme sailing event staged each year with different route to challenge competitors and show them the beautiful islands and coastlines in the country.
Competitors from the United States, Australia, Germany, Italy, Thailand, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea, Northern Islands and the Philippines, among others joined the event and appreciated the beauty and serenity of the beach, Lim said.
The other beach resorts here include Dancalan and Kalayukai that are both located at the southeastern cove of the municipality’s waters. They are beach lover favorites owing to its clean white sand, crystal clear water, secured environment and ideal facilities.
These beaches have already given this municipality the title “Surfing Capital of Sorsogon” after gaining positive feedback from local and foreign tourists due to its big surfing waves that thrill both swimmers and surfers.
