Tokyo Electric Power Co. <9501> said Sunday that 1.55 million households will see electricity supply halted on Monday (March 28, 2011) morning under the company’s rolling power outage program.
The households to be affected are in three of the five subgroups of Group 2, according to the power supplier. Electricity supply will be cut for about three hours from 9:20 a.m. (12:20 a.m. GMT), the firm said.
The firm will make a decision around noon Monday on whether to cut power supply to users in Group 4 from 3:20 p.m. and to those in Group 5 from 6:20 p.m. Power cuts are not planned for the two other groups–Group 1 and Group 3–for Monday. Power demand in the firm’s service areas, including Tokyo and nearby prefectures, is estimated at 38 million kilowatts for Monday, lower than its output capacity of 38.5 million kilowatts.
