The long-term prospect of export

The economic turmoil in Southeast Asia may affect Bangladesh’s long-term exports though the country has so far managed to protect itself from the crisis, a finance official said Wednesday.

The long-term prospect of export may be affected by the changes in exchange rates in Southeast and East Asian countries as their competitiveness is increasing as a result of devaluation,” Finance Minister Shah A.M.S. Kibria was quoted as saying by the local press on Thursday.

Bangladesh’s exports for the first five months of the current fiscal year beginning July 1 rose “vigorously” with a growth of over 20 percent over the same period of the last fiscal year, said Kibria.
