Textbook Claims Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea as Japanese Territory

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu expressed displeasure Thursday with school textbooks newly approved by Japan’s education ministry that describe the disputed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea as Japanese territory.

China has undisputable sovereignty over the islands and any attempt to alter this fact is useless, Jiang said at a news conference.
But she stopped short of using strong words to protest.

Beijing refrained from harshly criticizing Japan given the situation in which the two countries have yet to fully mend their diplomatic ties hurt by last September’s collision incident involving a Chinese trawler and Japan Coast Guard ships near the islands, also called Diaoyu in China, pundits said.
