Taxes Paid by Three Coal-fired Power Plants in Cebu

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu has collected a total of P2.4 billion from the taxes paid by three coal-fired power plants in Cebu in 2009 and 2010.

Port of Cebu district collector Ronnie Silvestre said the coal-fired power plants were big contributors to government revenues in 2009 and 2010.

Silvestre said that for 2009 alone, Cebu Energy and Development Corp. (CEDC) paid P305,743,181 while Cebu Global Power Corp. paid P553,937,667 in taxes and duties. Kepco-SPC Power Corp., on the other hand, paid P748,647,653.

The three companies paid a total of P1,608,328,501 in duties and taxes in 2009.

In 2010, Silvestre said, the combined collection from the three coal-fired power plants reached P734,890,612.80.

Of The total amount, P536,831,211 came from CEDC, P6,752,604 from Cebu Global Power, and P191,272,701 from Kepco-SPC.

CEDC and Kepco-SPC were also among the top importers last year, the Bureau of Customs said.

The other top importers are Seaoil Philippines Inc., Steel Asia Manufacturing Corp., Apo Cement Corp., Petronas Energy Philippines Inc., Tridharma Marketing Corp., Galvaphil Inc. and Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (PNA)
