The provincial government of Tarlac and the province of Henan in China have recently signed a sisterhood agreement aimed at strengthening the two province’s exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and science and technology.
Governor Victor Yap, in his remarks, said that Tarlac is honored to host the Chinese delegation to formalize and consolidate cooperation between Tarlac and Henan province.
“China and Philippines have long been trading partners and what we are doing today assures us of the continuity of what our forefathers started,” he said, adding that aside from trade and commerce, China also influenced Philippine culture, even to the extent of inter-marriage between Chinese and Filipino.
“Many Filipino names are Chinese, if not, of Chinese origin. Our President, Benigno Cojuangco Aquino III, who hails from Tarlac, traces his roots to China,” Yap said.
The governor also said that his family’s roots were from Fujian province.
For his part, Henan’s delegation head, Deng Yong Jian, the vice chairman of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference said that he is pleased to come and visit Tarlac.
