The Sheriff Confederation of the Philippines (SCOPHIL) Davao recently confirmed that the former Regional Trial Court (RTC) sheriff who was repeatedly punched by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio last July over the demolition of illegal settlers in this city, is now permanently assigned with the Supreme Court (SC).
SCOPHIL Davao president Sergio Tupas said former RTC Branch 16 sheriff Abe Andres is still an SC sheriff but handles more clerical tasks than field work.
Andres was detailed in Manila on August 1 after the punching incident over a demolition order on an illegal settlement in Barangay Soliman, Agdao, this city on July 1. The incident has led to filing of administrative charges and disbarment case against Duterte-Carpio but Andres opted not to sue the mayor.
Meanwhile, the sheriff’s position at RTC Branch 16 here is still vacant. All implementations such as Writ of Execution of the court and the writs will be forwarded to the Office of the City Clerk (OCC) for assignment to the deputy sheriffs.
