The Senegalese President Macky Sall arrived in Nouakchott Sunday afternoon for a two-day official visit, his first visit to Mauritania since being elected as the Senegalese president in March 2012.
The official press reported that upon his arrival, Sall was welcomed by his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and a 21-gun salute.
The Senegalese president was accompanied by a large delegation which was comprised of the country’s foreign minister, interior minister, agriculture minister, livestock minister and energy minister.
An official source said that the two presidents will hold a closed door meeting during which they will discuss issues of bilateral relations, the situation in Mali as well as the prevailing situation in the West African sub-region.
On Monday, the Senegalese president is scheduled to visit economic sites in the Mauritanian capital, which are of interest to Senegal.
The two countries are linked by numerous bilateral cooperation agreements, especially in the fishing sector as well as in the domain of free movement of persons and their goods.
