Seven members of the 4th Scout Ranger Battalion were hurt in an ambush military believed was staged by Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Barangay Bohe Suyak, Ungkaya, Pukan in Basilan Tuesday morning. Col. Rodrigo Gregorio, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson, said the incident transpired at around 7:40 a.m. as the Scout Rangers were on their way back to the 12th Scout Ranger Company headquarters. He saiud the troopers managed to return fire and succeeded in driving off the attackers after a 20-minute battle. The wounded soldiers were immediately airlifted by Philippine Air Force and US helicopters to the Camp Navarro General Hospital in Zamboanga City. “We suspect that this is the handiwork of spoilers particularly the ASGs who wanted to destroy the significant headway that we have achieved in the ongoing peace talks with the muslim rebels.
