Samsung Heavy Industries Co., a South Korean shipbuilder, said Friday that it has won a US$ 1.1 billion deal to build two drill ships.
Under the contract with an unidentified client in America, Samsung Heavy will deliver the vessels by the end of August, 2014, the shipbuilder said in a regulatory filing.
A drill ship is a maritime vessel equipped with a drilling apparatus. It is used for exploratory offshore drilling of new oil or gas wells in deep waters.
Early this month, Samsung Heavy also signed a US$ 2.73 billion deal to build an offshore facility that processes natural gas.
