President Benigno S. Aquino III has appointed a new Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice in the person of former Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Pedro Corales.
The President signed the appointment papers of Corales dated November 11, 2011 and was transmitted to Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Renato Corona.
In a one-page letter dated December 21, 2011 to SC en banc Clerk of Court Atty. Enriqueta Esguerra Vidal, Corona said that Corales was appointed as an Associate Justice of the CA and will be given copies of his appointment along with the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
”I am transmitting to you for record purposes the attached copy of the appointment of Hon. Pedro B. Corales as Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals, signed by His Excellency President Benigno S. Aquino III on November 11, 2011, together with the accompanying transmittal letter of Executive Secretary Paquino N. Ochoa, dated December 19, 2011, which was received by the Supreme Court on December 21, 2011,” Corona’s letter said.

The four other judges who vied for the post of CA justice were Quezon City RTC Judges Maria Luisa Padilla, Severino De Castro Jr., Maria Elisa Sempio-Diy, and Guagua Pampanga RTC Judge Jonel Mercado.

Neil Tupas Jr., Atty. Milagros Fernan-Cayosa from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), Atty.
