Residents of West Tower Condominium in Barangay (village) Bangkal, Makati City, announced Monday that they were abandoning the building and turning it over to the Lopez-owned First Philippine Industrial Corp. (FPIC).
According to a statement they sent Monday through their lawyer Lorna Kapunan, their decision was prompted by what they described as the worsening situation in the 22-story building following FPIC’s takeover of siphoning operations in the basement which remains flooded with a mixture of oil and water.
“The exhaustion brought about by this whole ordeal has led residents to turn over the building to the care of the FPIC in order for the latter to make good on its promise of remediation,” they said.
Although all the residents left their units in July with the closure of the condominium due to an oil leak traced to the nearby FPIC pipeline, most of them have continued paying their homeowners’ dues to keep the services of security guards who watch over the building.
