Three Filipinos died in an early morning fire that razed their rented apartment in the Satwa district of Dubai on November 6, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai reported.
The names of the fatalities are being withheld by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) pending communication procedures with next of kin. Arrangements for their repatriation to Manila are underway, according to Philippine Consul General Benito Valeriano.
He said in his report that two other Filipinos suffered minor injuries, while a third person sustained second degree burns on different parts of the body. The latter is confined at the Surgical Intensive Care Unit of Al Rashid Hospital in Dubai.
The Filipinos were reportedly asleep when the fire broke out, leaving them without much time to flee to safety. The receiving room and kitchen were ablaze and exits could no longer be used.
