Information officers shall serve as link between the government and the public to create better understanding and likewise pave the way for the public to bring their issues such that it will be properly responded.
This was emphasized by Atty. Jose A. Fabia, the Director-General of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) when he spoke before hundreds of information officers coming from regional line agencies and local government units all over Western Visayas who gathered here Wednesday for their yearend conference.
“Information when properly harnessed, especially new media, can be used to be able to save lives and if properly used can also help improve the lives of our countrymen,” he underscored.
Fabia cited how the government was able to properly respond and save lives when typhoon Juan hit the northern part of the Philippines just recently with the real time information provided through the new media.
By improving the lives of the people especially in the countryside, Fabia disclosed that government agencies and local government agencies have a lot of programs in store for the people as he urged participants to “help inform the public of the national programs of the Aquino government.”
