Promoting Good Governance in the Philippines

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) regional office will conduct on Thursday, (May 12), a road show on transparency summit here in line with an effort to promote local good governance.

DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo is expected to grace the summit which aims to boost the level of awareness and participation of local government units (LGUs) in the department’s different directives on good governance.

The summit is also in accordance with the current orders of President Simeon Benigno Aquino III to completely rid the government of graft and corruption.

DILG Zambales provincial director Flordeliza Trinidad said this is the first in a series of road shows nationwide the DILG will undertake to push for transparency and accountability in the fight against graft corruption.

The road show aims to rise the level of awareness, participation and compliance of local officials in Central Luzon to the different directives of the agency and encourage participation of stakeholders in promoting good local governance, Trinidad said.

It also aims to minimize or completely rid out graft and corruption, she said.

Robredo is expected to discuss the DILG’s program thrusts, particularly on Full Disclosure Policy among local officials, non-government organizations and the academe in the region.

Also part of the program is the awarding of winners on the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) to local governments, which initially targeted 4th to 6th class municipalities and cities.
