A police officer was killed and five others were injured in a vehicular smash-up Wednesday night in Bacolod City.
The lone fatality was PO1 Rio Salido assigned in the 1st Manuever Company in Bacolod City and a resident of Aklan.
Salido succumbed to serious head injuries while undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in Bacolod City.
Salido’s fellow police officer PO1 Ian John Dindo and Senior Insp. Edison Garcia who drove the service Isuzu pick-up were injured during the said vehicular smash-up.
On the other hand, the driver of a Fortuner vehicle, Joseph Rojas, who is the brother of a Bacolod City councilor, along with his two companions identified as Emmanuel Barela and Cesar Vicente, were also confined in a city hospital.
Based on an investigation made by the Traffic Management Unit (TMU), the Isuzu pick-up driven by Insp. Garcia and the Fortuner driven by Rojas were speeding in opposite direction along the Murcia Road in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City when the head on collision took place 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
