Three suspected cable thieves were arrested by the police while they were burning stolen cable wires in Barangay Pangapisan North here on Good Friday.
The three, together with another person who managed to escape, were reported by concerned citizens to Barangay Captain Eldo Cruz, who immediately called on the Lingayen police.
Arrested were Roderick Sanchez, 20, Mark Alvendia, 19, and Jordan de la Cruz, 20, all of Sitio Aplaya, Barangay Pangapisan, Lingayen.
A fourth suspect, identified as Jericho Carvajal, managed to escape, bringing along the copper they recovered from the burned cable wires.
Confiscated from the arrested suspects were two metal saws and three sacks of cut black plastic covering of communication cable wire with markings DIGITEL and PLDT of still undetermined length and market value.
The suspects were believed responsible for the series of cable wire thefts recorded in Lingayen and adjacent towns of Pangasinan, victimizing both the Digital Communications of the Philippines and the Philippine Long Distance Company.
Appropriate charges are now being prepared against the suspects in coordination with both Digitel and PLDT.
