Pinoy OFWs in Kuwait Return Home Safe

Vice President and Presidential Adviser on Overseas Filipino Workers’ (OFWs) Concerns Jejomar C. Binay welcomed some 105 repatriates from Kuwait, Wednesday afternoon at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 via Singapore Airlines flight SQ916.

The Vice President facilitated the repatriation of the 115 Filipinos who are part of the 286 wards at the Filipino Workers Resource Center (FWRC) in Kuwait after securing amnesty from Kuwaiti Amir Sheik Sabah Al-Ahmed A-Jaber Al Sabah.

Binay said he expects the repatriation of others to commence “as soon as the required travel documentation is completed, and the individual concerned has acquired a plane ticket.”

It was learned that Binay had hand-carried an appeal from President Benigno Aquino III asking the Amir for amnesty for OFWs charged with minor offenses and pardon for those presently detained when he attended the Kuwait’s celebration of its 50th year of Independence, the 20th anniversary of its Liberation from Saddam’s occupation forces, and the 5th anniversary of the ascension to power of its present Amir.
