Philippines NPA Rebel Found

Military authorities have found a decomposing body of a suspected member of the New People’s Army (NPA) believed to have died during an encounter with the government troops in Cateel, Davao Oriental last week.

A report released by Civil Military Operations (CMO) Battalion based in this city identified the body only as alias Purga.

The body was found near the Hulid River in Barangay Abijud, Cateel, Davao Oriental where some wounded rebels were also found and surrendered to the authorities after engaging in an encounter in the place.

CMO Battalion Commander Major Jake Obligado believed that Purga was killed during the first encounter with the rebels and the operatives of the 67th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Abijud, Cateel, Davao Oriental last Thursday.

The second clash between the rebels and the government troops also happened in the same barangay on Friday.

Obligado said Purga’s body was discovered at around 4:00 a.m. August 15 when K-9 team in coordination with the 67th IB conducted a tracking operation in the areas of encounter.
