A low pressure area, a potential cyclone, found west of Luzon may enter the Philippines on Tuesday or Wednesday, the state weather bureau said.
Weather forecaster Glaiza Escullar said that as of 2 p.m. Monday, the low pressure area (LPA) was spotted at 530 km west of Luzon (17.0ºN, 115.0ºE) or still outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
Escullar said the LPA had a high chance of becoming a tropical depression but might enter the country shortly.
“Based on the model, by Tuesday or Wednesday papasok yung LPA and as of now tinitingnan natin kung pumasok na ito at maging isang ganap na bagyo na; pero hindi ito magtatagal sa bansa at lalabas din ito towards Vietnam,” she said.
Once it intensifies into a cyclone and enters the Philippine territory, it will be named “Marce” – the 13th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year, Escullar said.
She said that weather disturbance’s trough or extension of rain clouds would directly affect and bring cloudy skies with occasional moderate to heavy rains over parts of Northern and Central Luzon, particularly in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan).
Escullar said the southwest monsoon affecting the western section of Luzon including Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Bicol region and the Eastern Visayas, though weakened, would bring occasional light to moderate rains or thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will have improving weather condition with partly cloudy skies and brief rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.
Moreover, Escullar said the weather agency also monitored a tropical depression in Guam and another potential cyclone in east of Mindanao.
However, based on the models, it is still too far away and is not expected to enter and affect the country, she said.
Meanwhile, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast to East will prevail over Northern Luzon and coming from the Southwest to South over Central Luzon.
