Philippine Lumber – Illegal Logging in Palawan, Philippines

The “Kilusan Sagip Kalikasan” (KSK) Northern operatives recently recovered 1,257 board feet of illegally-cut Sakut and Alawihao tree species in Barangay Cataban, Taytay.

The KSK estimated that the illegally-cut pieces of lumber shipment, about 70 pieces, have a market value of P37,710. As of press time, they are under the custody of barangay chairman Jessie Peña while investigation is still being conducted by the KSK to determine their owners.

Meanwhile, in Southern Palawan, the KSK also recovered 368 board feet of illegally-cut pieces of lumber in the vicinity of Sitio Underground, Barangay Alfonso XIII in Quezon town.

The KSK said the owner probably heard about their operation and left the area immediately, leaving behind pieces of lumber.

The confiscated pieces of lumber are estimated to have a market value of P14,720. These were placed under the custody of the MLO-Quezon. (PNA)
