The Philippine Air Force softball team will be defending its title in the 2012 National Softball Open Championships this Sunday, April 29, in Clark, Pampanga.
In Friday’s SCOOP sa Kamayan forum in Padre Faura, Manila, Master Sgt. Roberto Iturralde, national team head coach, said the national softball open for men and women has attracted 40 teams including three foreign teams from Brunei and Papua, Indonesia.
Iturralde said the tournament will be divided into Open and Club Divisions wherein teams will be beefed up by members of the Blu Boys and Blu Girls national players to even up everyone’s chances of winning.
Iturralde, who represented Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) in the forum sponsored by Powerade, ACTV and FILA, is to give club teams from the provinces a chance to show their talents and gain experience against teams from big urban areas.
The two Blu Girls who will play for Indonesia are Esmeralda Tayag and Dione Macasu. Defending its title in the distaff side is last year’s winner Adamson University.
The Kensei Club of Brunei will be powered by Blu Boys’ Apol Rosales, Edzel Manuel and Roldan Bacarisas.
