The Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012 drew 11,000 would-be participants during its early bird May 1-30 registration, said Penang Tourism Development, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang.
Scheduled for Nov 18, this year’s event offers a total prize money of RM150,000.
With the overwhelming response, Law expressed confidence that the initial target of 30,000 runners would be achieved and rewrite last year’s record of 27,500 participants.
“This could be the last chance to run on this bridge, as next year the race will be held at the Penang Second Bridge, the longest bridge in Southeast Asia,” said Law, who is also the event’s organising chairman.
He had earlier signed the sponsorship agreement with Allianz Life Insurance (M) Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Jens Reisch and Allianz General Insurance Company (M) Bhd CEO, Zakri Khir, here, Tuesday.
