Some 100 supporters of the PDP-Laban Party led by youthful lawyer Nicasio Aliping, Jr., went early to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here Monday to witness his filing of candidacy.
Aliping, a legal luminary in his late 30s and incumbent city councilor, will run for the lone congressional seat of this mountain resort 250 kilometers north of Manila against incumbent solon Bernardo Vergara, a veteran politician since the Martial Law years.
Aside from Aliping, five others have filed their certificates of candidacy for councilor here. Most of them are running for elective posts for the first time.
The early filers were Fred Fangonon, Rizalino Banta, Evelyn Balisong, Emmanuel Carantes and Ana Mae Baquiran.
Modesto Bahul, city elections supervisor said the initial elections process went on peacefully.
