The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confiscated 38 boxes of dynamited fish off Palawan on Saturday afternoon, the agency reported on Monday.
Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo, PCG commandant, said personnel from Coast Guard Detachment Delpan, National Capital Region–Central Luzon, and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) were conducting joint maritime law enforcement operations when they intercepted the illegally-caught fish loaded on board ML Andrea from Linapacan, Palawan.
Sensing that the fish cargo will be confiscated, the alleged shippers/owners immediately scampered to different directions to avoid arrest.
All of the confiscated fish will be donated/turned over to charitable institutions and city jails in the area, the PCG said. (PNA)
