Oplan Iwas Paputok Caravan launched in Tarlac City
TARLAC CITY, Dec. 29 (PNA) — The Oplan Iwas Paputok Caravan was launched on Thursday in the city’s main thoroughfares here to remind the residents not to use firecrackers during the New Year’s celebration.
City Mayor Cristy Angeles said the caravan aims to encourage the public that instead of firecrackers, it is better to use “torotot”, “busina,” music and other alternative means of making noise in welcoming the year 2017.
“The move aims to prevent firecracker-related accidents. There are other means to celebrate New Year,” Angeles said.
The caravan was spearheaded by the Philippine National Police, Police Provincial Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, and other local government units (LGUs) in the province.
Meanwhile, retailers of firecrackers and fireworks along the streets of Barangay Mabini in this city were inspected Wednesday.
The operation was conducted to enforce strict compliance to RA 7183, otherwise known as the Firecracker Law of 1992.
The joint inspection was conducted by the Tarlac City Police, led by Supt. Bayani Razalan, and Bureau of Fire Protection, headed by Fire Chief Inspector Jimmy Suba. (PNA)
