NPA in Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines

Sightings of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels along the province’s boundaries serve as a flashpoint on the insurgency situation in this province for the second quarter, according to Army officials.

Police Sr. Supt. Elmer Beltejar, police provincial director, said NPA rebels were spotted on June 7 and 17 this year at sitio Dumaliguia, Brgy. Runruno in Quezon town and Brgy. Ammoeg in Ambaguio town, respectively.

“Seven NPA members were seen in Ambaguio and two in Quezon town with unknown leaders,” he said.

Beltejar said the NPA groups belong to Casimiro Binayon unit, alias “Peter” and “KLG Marco”, who were currently operating in Nueva Vizcaya and Ifugao provinces.

The communist groups were in the process of foraging and recruitment activities to establish mass-based support from villagers, he explained.

The Philippine Army (PA) also bared that 27 sightings were reported in these areas while two sightings were confirmed along the province’s Nueva Ecija-Aurora boundary.
