The National Food Authority (NFA) inaugurated two warehouses that can accommodate 220,000 bags of rice in Northern Mindanao or Region 10.
NFA assistant regional director for Northern Mindanao Rolando Maravilla said: “The construction of so many NFA bodegas (warehouses) in the country, including Zamboanga City, is in line with the government’s food security program to be rice self-sufficient by the Year 2013.”
Maravilla, who is from Zamboanga, said the P41-million bodegas were located in Camiguin island and Cagayan de Oro City.
The bodega inaugurated in Camiguin is worth P3 million with a capacity to store 20,000 bags of rice.
On the other hand, the bigger bodega constructed in Cagayan de Oro City is worth P38 million and can store some 200,000 bags of rice.
Altogether, the new bodegas will add up to the storage capacity of the cereal in the region.
