The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here through its Single Entry Approach (SENA) has recovered some P8.14 million worth of monetary benefits from the 261 labor cases that were settled in Western Visayas in 2011.
SENA is the flagship reform program on labor adjudication of the DOLE which prescribes a 30-day mandatory conciliation-mediation services to hasten the resolution of cases.
Labor information officer Amy Judicpa said that this program no longer requires a lawyer for labor disputes to be resolved.
This covers cases like illegal dismissal, underpayment of wages, non-payment of over-time pay, holiday pay and thirteenth month pay and non-coverage of social protection benefits under SSS, Philhealth, and Pag-ibig.
Judicpa said that for the past 13 months DOLE received 453 requests for assistance (RFA) and 98 percent or 443 were disposed.
Of the number, 261 were settled which benefited 949 members and the recovery of the P8.14 million. In the case of settlement, some workers were also reinstated in addition to their monetary claims.
Judicpa, however, said that they fell short of their 70 percent settlement target only reaching 58 percent of the cases disposed.
