A group of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from the United States arrived in the country to sponsor medical and dental missions all over Pangasinan province.
This is the Pangasinan Association of USA Inc. composed of 10 members, headed by Nida Cortez, a retired teacher, who is from Mangaldan town.
Cortez revealed that it was Governor Amado Espino Jr. who actually challenged their organization to do worthwhile projects that could help Pangasinenses.
“We met the governor during his visit in the U.S. and we promised him that we would do medical and dental mission for the province”, Cortez said.
The group brought their own medicines in the medical and dental mission which was launched last Feb. 4 in Mangaldan, Malasiqui, Bautista and Dagupan City in coordination with the local government units.
The Pangasinan provincial health office (PHO) led by Dr. Anna Theresa De Guzman, provincial health officer, provided manpower for the health undertaking.
“We did not bring with us doctors because we believe that the doctors here in Pangasinan are as competent as the doctors in the U.S.”, Cortez said.
Besides giving free medical services, the group also distributed school supplies to several day care pupils and relief goods in the towns of Binalonan, Pozorrubio and Aguilar.
Meanwhile, Dr. De Guzman said that they have been helping in the health projects of OFW groups who were usually in the country during the first quarter of the year to take part in fiestas or perhaps there are simply escaping the cold weather in the western hemisphere this season.
