Malaria in India Alarming

Over 70 percent of India’s population, or about 1 billion people face the risk of malaria infection, local press reported Sunday.

Moreover, around 310 million Indians face the “highest risk” of getting infected by the vector-borne disease, said the electronic edition of The Times of India.

India has over 100 million suspected malaria cases although only 1.59 million were confirmed to be infected by the disease last year, the report quoted the World Malaria report 2011 of the World Health Organization (WHO) as saying.
