The Catholic prelates on Friday urged the faithful to put back Christ at the center of the Yuletide Season because the celebration is about God’s love to the people.
“God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son who became man for our salvation. So God became man so that man may become like God and God is love so man should also love and this love should express itself in good deeds. And where there is love there will be peace,” said Marbel, South Cotabato Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez in an interview over Radio Veritas 846.
He added that peace will be achieved if the people will treat each day as Christmas.
“Peace on earth will come to stay when we live Christmas everyday. Meaning, when we love everybody everyday,” the prelate said.
Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes, on the other hand, asked the people to love their neighbors not only on Christmas but everyday in their lives.
“All this material gift is just a symbol of a deep spiritual gift, a kind of affection for the love of God, because God loves us, we have to love him and love our neighbors,” he said.
For Iba, Zambales Bishop Florentino Lavarias and Fr. Anton Pascual of Caritas Manila, they both asked the faithful to remember the less fortunate when they think of Christ this season.
“Through the poor and needy, we see God’s presence,” the bishop said.
“We appeal to the goodness and compassion of people to remember the poor this Christmas. The poor are vulnerable, marginalized and oppressed in our society that need to feel also God’s love and the joy of Christ’s birth,” the Caritas Manila official said. (PNA)
