Iloilo – The Lopez Group of Companies chaired by industrialist Oscar Lopez is keen on putting up major development projects in this southern city, according to Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
Rafael Alunan of Adtel and Lopez Group recently paid Mabilog a visit to inquire on the possibility of conducting businesses here to spur development.
Mabilog said Alunan assured help in negotiating and convincing the landowner of an area in Loboc, Bo. Obrero to sell or allow development of a vacant lot into an industrial estate and export processing zone.
Alunan said he would talk with the landowner Valderrama family based in Negros Occidental to realize the project.
Mabilog said Alunan also wanted to provide potable water for residents of the Uswag San Isidro Subdivision, formerly the San Isidro relocation site in Jaro, Iloilo City.
The relocation site is starting to expand with several housing units subdivided into villages. Among the donors are the Gawad Kalinga, Habitat for Humanity, Panay Electric company, the government of Italy, former Cong. Raul Gonzalez Jr. and CLIFF and Homeless Peoples Inc.
Mabilog said that by June next school year, a school will be established for Grades 1 to 3 inside the subdivision. A concrete road was constructed while two passenger jeepneys will soon ply in the subdivision.
