Livelihood Opportunities for Filipinos

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here has extended livelihood assistance to some 4,713 individuals and shelled out some P17.78 million in 2011.

Labor Information Officer Amy Judicpa said that the assistance was in the form of livelihood formation, enhancement, workers union augmentation (Win Up) and emergency employment.

In terms of livelihood formation, DOLE funded some 29 projects amounting to around P8 million and benefiting 1,629 members.

This include among others the provision of starter kits for massage, automotive mechanics, electronic services, metal arts and carpentry; also formation or various livelihood projects like with the case of Aklan and for unemployed or out-of-school youths in Capiz.

Further, DOLE assisted 10 existing businesses shelling out some P4.632 million thus benefiting 1,108 workers.

Two workers union in Western Visayas availed a total of P500,000 under the Win Up which is extended to workers union.

Moreover, 1,332 workers availed of the emergency employment program. DOLE shelled out P3.64 million for the emergency employment.
