The condition of comedy king Rodolfo “Dolphy” V. Quizon Sr. is improving after he underwent dialysis but remains critical, according to one of his sons.
Film director/actor Eric Quizon said his father’s vital signs are okay and the dialysis, which started on Thursday, helped to cleanse his body of excess fluids and toxins and support his kidney functions.
Quizon also said that his father opened his eyes while undergoing the procedure.
“Somehow nagmulat ang kanyang mata for a while at tumingin siya sa paligid. Siyempre natuwa ang mga kapatid ko, kaming lahat dahil alam namin na nadidinig niya kami ng time na yun and I knew he was trying to communicate with us,” Quizon said.
But even if Dolphy’s vital signs are okay, Quizon stressed that his father is still in critical condition.
Quizon said his father’s platelet counts remain very low and thus is susceptible to hemorrhaging.
“As of now he’s still positive for hemorrhaging, so merong bleeding sa loob. So, inaalam namin kung saan nanggagaling yung bleeding na ‘to. ‘Yan lang yung downside,” he said, explaining that Dolphy continues to receive blood transfusions.
He added that they still wait for the result of the blood test.
The 83-year-old icon was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Makati Medical Center (MMC) last June 9 for complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
According to Quizon, his father is suffering from toxic metabolic encephalopathy, a complication of COPD which causes weakness and spasms.
On Thursday morning, Malacañang called on Filipinos to pray for the Comedy King as he remains under observation at the MMC.
