Landslide in Aklan, Philippines

A woman died while her husband was injured in a landslide after a heavy downpour of rain that surprised Aklan residents here Tuesday.

Killed in the landslide was identified as Herminia Cuales, 62 of sitio Bangbang, Barangay Feliciano, Balete town, Aklan.

Her husband, Efren Cuales, 57, was rescued by residents in the area and is now being treated at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital.

It was reported that the rains Tuesday has flooded at least 10 of the 17 towns in Aklan, including Boracay Island, that left thousands of commuters stranded.

In Kalibo alone, local government officials said that the flashflood had displaced more than 3,750 residents while three landslides had been reported.
