Kuwait Signs Agreement with Russia

Kuwait has signed a five-year memorandum with Russia for peaceful use of nuclear energy generation in the country, a statement has said.

The agreement was signed on Monday by Ahmad Beshara, the Secretary of the Kuwait National Nuclear Energy Committee (KNNEC) and the head of Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko, in the presence of of officials from both the countries.

Kuwait has recently declared plans to build four nuclear reactors by 2022 and a work plan is expected to be declared in January.

The memo, signed on the sidelines of the annual general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, is aimed at boosting the cooperation between Kuwait and Russia in the nuclear sector.
