Members of the Liberal Party (LP) are opposing with each other in this Ati-atihan town prompting the national leadership to consider Kalibo a free-zone.
Former Aklan congressman Allen Quimpo, along with his party mate, incumbent board member Raymar Rebaldo, filed on Monday their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for mayoralty and vice mayoralty posts, respectively.
Both of them will be competing against incumbent mayor William Lachica and Vice Mayor Madeline Regalado. They are expected to file their COCs later this week.
Quimpo said he is returning to politics to save his local party Tibyog, which he founded a decade ago.
“I am here to run to continue the legacy of the Tibyog,” he said.
The Tibyog Party has produced political dynasty in the province including incumbent Congressman Florencio Miraflores and his son Joen Miraflores.
